Technology Overview
SD (Secure Digital) is a non-volatile memory card format developed by Panasonic, Sandisk, and Toshiba for use in portable devices. The SD Association (SDA) is an open industry standards organization established in January 2000 by leaders Matsushita Electric (Panasonic), SanDisk, and Toshiba, supported by a consortium of over 500 companies. Posedge is a member of SD Association (SDA) and participates in the Standard development and evolution.
The following chart shows the evolution of the SD from Standard SD cards offering an official maximum capacity of 2 GB to SDHC (High-capacity) cards having a maximum capacity of 32GB to SDXC (eXtended Capacity) allowing up to 2TB cards. Over a period of time, Throughputs have gone up from 12.5 MB/s to 300 MB/s with the latest SD Version 4.0 standard.
